Christmas events
From December 1st to January 5th
A magical world for children, which even adults love to partake in. The joy of being together, without necessarily having to stay in one's home living room. The pleasure of buying presents at the market or in boutiques. This is the kind of Christmas that the City proposes and which will feature 37 very special days in the streets of the city centre so that the Christmas season can reach out to everyone.

Lighting of the Christmas Tree
Riforma Square
The lighting of the city's tallest Christmas tree is a really exciting event, especially for children. In that occasion, Santa Clause will be the special correspondent and he will select several children amongst those present to light the Christmas tree. But there will also be a small surprise for everyone else: a snack of bread, chocolate and hot tea. And all this accompanied by the music of gospel Choir The Harmonics in the background.
Rosy Nervi from Rete Tre will be host.

Skating in town
Manzoni Square
You'll be able to skate in Manzoni Square for over a month! The skating rink is open every day until January 6th. Entrance is free and if you don't have your own skates, you can rent them right there. After skating, if you feel cold, you can always warm up at our Chocolate House.

Gastronomy
Manzoni Square
Gastronomic chalets will be set up all around the skating rink offering sweets, hot spiced wine, pretzels and lots more, a real joy for the palate for both young and old. And for gourmets, a special chalet with the Canton's most famous chefs will also be available.

The Advent Market
Riforma Square
During Advent, Riforma Square will be populated by charming wooden houses, where you can find all sorts of Christmas specialties, decorations and original gift ideas. In other words, we don't want you to be reminded of the Christmas season, just by the cold December weather!

A Children's Christmas: Candles
Manzoni Square
Manzoni Square becomes a small children's workshop. Through the expert help of teachers, they will be able to create their own hand-made special Christmas gift: candles of any shape and colour that they may decide to choose from.

Fairy tales and Music for a Children’s Christmas
San Carlo Square
On Wednesday December 5th, Gioacchino Lonardo and his marionettes will tell two of the most famous traditional tales: Jonas and the Whale and Robin Hood.
On Wednesday December 12, Debby will entertain children with an animated Christmas fairy tale and will teach them many new songs.
On Wednesday December 19th, the ventriloquist Scapinelli will be presenting magical tricks and Christmas games together with his three friends: Gabor the Hungarian magician, Granny Carolina that tells fairy tales from night to morning and the lovely Marta Farra.
Every Wednesday, the appointment is at 2.00 p.m. in Piazza Riforma, where Susi will be waiting to welcome children and parents to then accompany them in Piazza San Carlo.
Piazza Riforma
The "Piccoli Cantori di Pura", a choir of children’s voices founded 1992 and made up of 29 children coming from all over the area of Malcantone and Lugano will be performing on December 8th at 3.00 p.m.
After this, at 4.00 p.m. the vocal Group Famiglia Sala will present a repertoire of Christmas carols.
On Saturday, December 22nd at 2.30 p.m. in fun and lots of bubbles that will invade the entire square. Susi will also be there to award prizes to the winners of the competition.
The City Centre
On Sunday, December 23rd from 2.30 p.m. on, the streets of the city centre will be animated by the itinerant performance “Vincenzo Magio and the Three Kings”, that is, a story about the journey of the Magi and of their accountant.

The Christmas Market
In the town centre's main streets
10 days before Christmas, the market will take over the pedestrian area of the town centre, with stalls, which will offer a rich ware of goods such as gastronomic specialties, arts and crafts items, precious fabrics, oriental scents and charitable initiatives.

Christmas Show: every day until Wed. 26.12 from 5.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
New Year's Show: every day until Mon. 31.12 from 5.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Lights and Sounds at Palazzo Civico
Riforma Square
Even Palazzo Civico bedecks itself for the holidays. Following the success of last year’s shows, this year Susi will offer two different shows. For 170 times in 15 days the historical facades will be animated by lights, sounds and colours, as if the Town Hall were to become the stage set of another world for a while.

Celebrating New Year's Eve
Riforma Square
Don't stay home, come celebrate in Riforma Square! The actual celebration starts at 11.00 with Channel 3's best DJs re-proposing the most famous musical pieces of the last 30 years, accompanied by lights and images. Towards midnight the exciting countdown.

New Year's Day
From Riforma Square to the Congress Hall
The city welcomes in the new year with a parade that expresses its character and vitality. Besides the city authorities - as tradition imposes - the parade will also see the participation of representatives of the main cultural, sports, musical and ethnic associations of Lugano accompanied by the picturesque Luganese Volunteer Corps. The parade will start in Riforma Square, move along Riva Albertolli and finally reach the Congress Hall. Here, after the New Year’s whishes, an aperitif will be served to all citizens.
